Origin of the name of the historical sites in Rimini
In many parts of the city it is possible to find the remains of the old city walls, which protected the centre of the town from enemy attacks. Access to the town was through fortified doors which were closed every evening: some Medieval examples of these doors have survived, as have two from the Roman period, the Arch of Augustus and Porta Montanara.
