Rimini honoured by the New York Times
Every year, travellers eagerly await this list of exciting must see places in the coming year. And Rimini is up there with the best of them, 52 in total worldwide, sitting in 40th position. It's an acknowledgement that the prestigious American paper had already bestowed on our city in 2007, but which we have obviously earned a second time around.
In the NYT's annual selection, this year Italy is the top foreign country, boasting three destinations, as opposed to just one in the 2017: Emilia Romagna and Rimini, alongside Basilicata (in 3rd place), and Südtirol, coming in at number 50.
The reasons behind placing Rimini and Emilia Romagna on this important list bring to light two core aspects: cinema and food. Not to be missed, the re-opening of the Fulgor Cinema in Rimini on January 20th, the birth date of Federico Fellini: "the cinema, part and parcel of the Fellini Museum, is where the Maestro watched his first films as a young boy, and has been renovated by Oscar winning production designer, Dante Ferretti". Also featuring in the travel section is FICO Eataly World, the Italian food-themed park in Bologna: a homage to Italian cooking", the Times explains.
"Rimini being on this international list - remarks Mayor Andrea Gnassi - is a real source of pride and a sign of renewed attention towards our city, for what it represents in many parts of the world. This prestigious recognition comes at the end of a particularly good year in terms of tourism trends and figures, and marks the beginning of an even more important one: in 2018 we will complete the requalification of the city and return to both citizens and tourists alike the cultural sites that have been a work in progress for some time. A spot on the New York Times Places to Go list is yet another exceptional confirmation that we are on the right track".
