Arimini Caput Viarum: the rediscovery of Roman Rimini
Recently inaugurated and located in the former board room of Rimini Province in Corso d'Augusto, the Visitor Center - Arimini Caput Viarum - is an information point for tourists and citizens alike, as well as an educational and interpretation centre, and the "Portal" to the history of our region that began as Ariminum, and has developed over the centuries to the place it is today, embracing the entire Rimini area, from the hills to the sea, "said Andrea Gnassi, Mayor of Rimini, and President of the Province.
In addition to offering a wealth of information, the Visitor Center is part of an ongoing development project within the city, focusing on a multimedia-interactive tour to discover Rimini Caput Viarum. This concept is embodied in the intersection of the cardo maximus and the decumanus maximus (the two main streets in Roman cities), in the centre of the city near Piazza Tre Martiri, the hub of Rimini's public and economic life. The intersection of these two perpendicular lines, a symbol of coming together and integration, are at the root of the ethnic component of the Province, which today is reflected in the area's renowned hospitality.
Visitors will be greeted by an avatar of Julius Caesar who will guide them through ancient Rimini, assisted by archaeological reconstructions and information from the archaeological site of the Surgeon's House and the City Museum.
