Ring the New Year in with Opera at the Palacongressi

Celebrate New Year 2016 at the Palacongressi di Rimini with Giacomo Puccini's opera in three acts, Madama Butterfly, libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica.

The spectacle, staged by Opera Futura, in collaboration with Coro Lirico Città di Rimini Amintore Galli, will be directed by Paolo Panizza (who previously directed La Traviata, Rimini 2013 and The Merry Widow, Rimini 2014).

Madama Butterfly, defined in the score and libretto as a "Japanese tragedy", was performed for the first time in 1904 at Teatro alla Scala, Milan and tells the story of young Cio Cio San and her naive and unrequited love for a United States naval officer and her vain hope of his return to Nagasaki.

This is one of the most engaging and romantic lyrical dramas in the history of opera, in which unfortunately love does not triumph and the great illusion of the protagonist's happiness, in keeping with melodramatic tradition, results in tragedy.
